Why We Built This Site
New Mexico gives the public broad access to many public records through the Inspection of Public Records Act, court rules, and official court portals. The difficult part in Taos County is matching the record to the correct custodian. District Court case files, Magistrate Court cases, municipal citations, county land records, marriage licenses, probate matters, detention records, and sheriff records do not all come from one office.
Taos County also has a split-clerk structure. The court clerk function belongs to the New Mexico Judiciary through the Eighth Judicial District Court and Magistrate Court offices. The Taos County Clerk is a separate county office that records documents, issues marriage licenses, accepts county public-records requests, and serves as clerk to the Probate Court.
